What is all this?

Shortly: A continuous and ever-changing communal artprocess. It presents itself in three ways:

( I )

 (-_-)
General Gatherings
A public communal art rendezvous

So who is doing and what? Why?

The communal art group originating from The Livingroom of Fire hosts Colours in February. During the month interesting things will happen both at Hirvitalo and at the Livingroom. The purpose of the project is to gather all sorts of people together who are interested in various ways of communicating and confronting each others as well as participating in discussions, ”playshops” (playful workshops), festivities and art creation processes.

The exhibition-piece-network that stems from Hirvitalo out into the neighbouring areas and the distant horizon is currently known as An Investigation of Playfulness and Limitlessness. Beginning in May this year, the boundary-breaking exhibition will expand from its starting place and also manifest in the forms of charming events and happenings in addition to the more conventional gallery-styled art exhibitioning.

The open communal process of art & playing continues throuhout the year as General Gatherings occurring on a weekly basis. Also, monthly intensive gatherings, seasonal events and occasional seminars are to be expected. Everyone joining the fun will be received with warm welcomes :)

Some point-of-views and methods concerning the art processes:

Communality and playing

The importance of communality can´t be over-emphasized. In all our activities getting together and working/playing together is of the essence. The goal is to create an atmosphere of playfulness and openness, where ideas can emerge from the fertile interplay of chaos and harmony and explode into concrete reality when someone starts acting upon them. New playful structures of communication will be developed during the February of Colours as well as in the weekly gatherings thereafter. Through engaging in playing, courage, fun and new friends can be found, as well as fresh ideas to bring into being.

Interdiscipline

The aim of these processes is to mix all kinds of art forms, including performances, poetry, visual arts, sculpturing, music, seminars, multimedia and drama into one breathing entirety, which will be allowed to cough :)

Concerning the themes of Playfulness and Limitlessness

According to the theme, the starting point of the project is a child-like faith in the possibility to carry out ideas and to influence the world, even on an international level – in a totally boundless way. Eventually, borders might appear through investigation and trial. Yet, even an utter failure in a positively boundless project is, naturally, also a success. The best or strangest flop will be rewarded!

Hirvitalo will be playfully set as the Center of the World during the exhibition. From there all humanity can be reached via different pieces of work or other levers. During this theme year of Happenings at Hirvitalo, these projects are also focusing on having a lot of different events, including general discussions as well as an open cafeteria, in addition to a basic gallery exhibition.

Recycling and sharing

Our resources are currently very limited. Also, it is simply logical and appropriate to recycle all that can be used again. The materials for the workshops and pieces of work will mostly be collected and received as donations. One mode of collecting to try out is a direct approach, from door to door. These collecting parties can in themselves be an invigorating and carnevalistic piece of art, directly connected to the ”actual” event.

As a principle, everyone brings what materials and tools they can find to be shared with others. This is naturally also an important aspect of communality. The ”infinite” natural materials of snow, ice, water, stones, twigs, roots etc. as well as the immaterial materials such as thoughts, manners, music, sounds, touches, stories etc. are also at our disposal.

”The inventiveness of the poor knows no limit!” (an old saying in Pispala)

The fading out of the exhibition´s boundaries

Hirvitalo will be the fixed point and intersection for many pieces of work. They will nevertheless be partly situated elsewhere: in the surrounding neighbourhood, Tampere, Finland, world-wide and in the Internet, constructing a growing network and an adventure path of sorts. The spectator-participator can find his/her/its way from one piece to another for example via maps, signs, symbols, stones, threads, beams of light, electricity, posters, laughs, origamis, hand-to-hand-instructions or other concrete lines.

DIY- principle

We can´t wait for all good things to be handed to us on silver platters. Initiativity, perseverance and a shared will can lead us to achieve our goals. Let´s decide in what kind of a world we want to live in – and start working our way towards it!

”The best way to make sure you´re a part of a good flow is to create it yourself!” (an old saying in Pispala)
